Today we spent most of the day fighting with a computer we've named "Free Willy", as the computer is a beast that cannot be tamed. Greg taught Colton and I a bit about how optical drives are hooked up as well. We went through so many troubleshooting processes but try as we might we can't get Windows XP or Vista on that computer...

  1. try using a disk with sp2 on it. Also, make sure the BIOS is set for the SATA/PATA to be used in IDE mode, you can always load the native drivers once into windows, then enable native mode (if the mobo supports it).

  2. Show the beast who's boss. You cannot let your enemy over take you. You must not show weakness. HAVE NO MERCY!

  3. The native drivers are Dell proprietary and anything installed by Microsoft would not even allow a boot, after checking Dell's own driver website we couldn't even find a driver for anything but Dell disks. short of ghosting this computer (which we absolutely did not do if any law enforcement is reading) we are going to hve to re-install lubuntu on Willy
